I agree sort of.

But I don't know what principles they think we have abandoned. And that can too easily be manipulated, IMO, to be a useful rule. You can always find some principle another person isn't following to avoid helping them if you want to.

What this is really about, and let's be frank about it, is two things.

1. Germany, France, and Russia have lucrative contacts and contracts with Iraq (France bought oil in exchange for the nuclear reactor which Israel destroyed), and fear that if we liberate Iraq they will be pushed out of that lucrative market.

2. Germany and France want to try to create a European power to challenge the role of the US as the sole superpower. That's why, for example, France is pressuring the newer and prospective members of the EU not to side with the US.

Maybe the person on the street is acting on the basis of principles. But in the halls of government, this is about what politics is always about -- power and money.
