I don't really think the imposition of a solution on Iraq by another Arab, Muslim country would be inherently better then a similar imposition by the US.

No, not better, but more palatable.

If I am getting bashed over the head I don't really care much what the skin color or religion of the person doing it is.

I agree with you when it's my head being hit, but I don't think that's universally true. Some people are more averse to outsiders more than are to getting bashed.

I guess I don't buy the whole "cultural imperialism." argument.

I wasn't trying to make a strong cultural imperialism argument. I think I qualified what I said enough not to. But we just can't help imposing on other cultures simply because we think the way we think. I noticed in Bush's speech last night that he was much more analytical and collegial than in his earlier good vs. evil speeches, but even at that he assumes that Iraq should have a democracy. We just can't help thinking that's best for everyone because it's best for us. And it may indeed be best for everyone. In struggling to find some worthwhile principle in Saddam's POV, though, I think it reasonable to concede a bit re the resentment of outsiders.
