The fool may yet let us off the hook.

Oh, if it were but true. Saddam is no fool and some poor Iraqi private will be sent out with some dental floss to dimantle one missile on Saturday morning. Iraq will proclaim a sudden love of disarmament and the UNSC will pat itself on the back for prevailing. Saddam has been playing divide and conquer at the UN for 20 years, he is a master at that game. Remember the UN sanctioned Israeli for taking out Saddam's nuclear plants.

I wish that Bush was less stetson and codpiece. I was very happy with his context setting speech last night and I hope we see more of that type of performace. However, I think that the strategy of bringing UN ineffectiveness into the light is the right approach. The UN wants to deal with Iraq as much as it wants to deal with North Korea. Nada, Zippo and Squat. The UN isn't designed for action, it is designed to restrain action.
