The issue is not about preference - it is about integrity with the natural and fundamental biological structure of all humans. It just does not matter what societies throughout history have chosen to do. Those societies have chosen to do all manner of wicked thing. That is no reason to claim all this pain and evil is correct. Some people prefer to commit suicide. But just because they prefer this is no argument that suicide is compatible with their biological identity. Despite their preference for suicide, it is STILL contrary to human identity.
