A genuinely dumb observation:

I find perfectly rational, intelligent, nice people can become stupid, raving, monsters on the subject of Religion and Politics. That is why you see so many people and places with a "No Religion or Politics," attitude or policy. Look at some of the posters we have to ban here that are probably nice people on other subjects.

Didja ever notice that you can persuade the best of people to do horrible things if you convince them it is for the "Common Good?" That was the reasoning behind the Fascism and Communism of the last Century.

much of the opposition to war with Iraq is more than anything the politics of liberals here and the left in Europe who would not abide being led anywhere by a conservative U.S. administration.

That's true, John. We could argue over the definition of "much," but you know it is true. Hell, if Clinton was leading things, many conservatives would oppose him for the same reason. That's Human Nature, John.

John, do you think that Clinton would have initiated an attack on Iraq if he were in Bush's shoes?

And if he had, do you think public opinion would have been different? And if so, why?

"However, the point of these paragraphs is different, it is that criticisms of the Bush administration hold no water because they have nothing to do with the facts. Of course, we know these same folk would have argued precisely the opposite about Clinton's policies. Criticism was a measure of higher intelligence; defense of lower intelligence."

This morning I was having breakfast in a little local coffee shop in Morris County New Jersey. I noticed two average looking middle age men (50) as they sat in the booth directly behind me.

I heard " big new bombs" "when they start the bombs" "I hope they bomb everyone flat".

I was a little surprised because one usually doesn't hear
this kind of talk in our little mom and pop place. Then one said in a very sarcastic nasty way "yeah, and if Billy BOy was in the White House everything would be fine, no demonstrations. Everything he wanted to do was fine."

The rest of the conversation revolved around local politics and surprisingly enough, the one talking about Billy Boy was talking about his OWN next election. These were nice looking family men but their conversation was troubling because of the malice. ( I took a good look so I'll know who not to vote for.)

The reason I am talking about this is because my eyes were opened on how some must still compare everything this Administration does to the CLinton Admiistration. I think this is a real issue. If all Clinton policies were 180ed because of this resentment we are not getting the best planning or representation.
