U.S. Says Hussein Must Cede Power to Head Off War
By FELICITY BARRINGER with DAVID E. SANGER
nytimes.com;

The Bush folk just raised the bar. Looks as if they are worried about the "disarmement" argument. So they need a new one. Just more of the same. One argument doesn't work; find another one. That's precisely what leads critics to think there are reasons beneath the public reasons.

<<But clearly the Bush administration is scurrying for votes>>
And France is scrambling for non-votes
France and Russia are desperate not to have to Veto the recent resolution because when the US acts(very likely to happen) they will move way down on the Totem pole for oil contracts
To avoid a veto, they are scrambling for votes also
Chirac on behalf of politics, cannot concede that US is on a higher moral level than the French are no matter how low that level may be so will fight the resolution "just because "
Lord help us if a situation rises where instant decisions are needed by the UN , such as use of nukes by N Korea
Unilateral action must be a reservation and decision of the Nation attacked regardless of UN support , and the US has reserved that right.
We were attacked, a Jihad or war was declared by OBL.
This is not a new war with Iraq, there was a cessation of activities, an armistice is still in effect and if Iraq has any WMD's left (they do) they are in violation and war can resume without futher warnings.
Saddam has been given 18 opportunities or warnings and time has expired- there may be more talk, but there will be no more warnings.
