And I still haven't heard of any American companies who have enabled countries to acquire nuclear weapons capabilities.

As I see it, you can't give me those examples, so you switch to talking about money/conventional arms. Those are separate issues from nuclear weapons.

Seems to me you are pushing toward the line of thought that Israel is the root of our problems in the ME. Israel is a sore subject for the Arabs, of course. But think about what the ME would be like if there had never been an Israeli state at all. The Shah of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, Saddam Hussein, Kuwait, the Saudi royal family, Osama bin Ladin, etc. - in the absence of an Israel in the ME, these folks would still be there, still be what they are /were, and we'd have pretty much the same issues with them for good and bad as we do now. In other words, we'd still be hated - one less reason but still hated. One difference is that Saddam would already have had nuclear weapons by now.

To imagine an alternate history of the ME that is substantially different than real history, you'd have to imagine a history where the Persian Gulf doesn't have rich oil reserves or where there are other cheaper energy sources available from other sources.
