Sprint Nokia 3585i Review

howardforums.com

Here is my review. I used the phone for 2 days, right away this phone fell short of my expectations. I was disappointed and I returned the phone.

CONS

LOOK:

When I opened the box of this phone, I noticed right away that the phone didn't seem very durable like my old Nokia 6585--it was more like a plastic kit model of a better phone that it could have been. It seemed that it would shatter into dust if I dropped it.

RF PERFORMANCE:

The RF on the nokia 3585i is ok though NOT as good as it should be. I noticed in places where there is a strong signal the 3585i only held 3 or 4 signal bars. The only time I noticed the nokia with full bars was outside my job where a cell tower is nearby. Other than that the signal bars consistently stay at 3 or 4 bars. Regardless of the long a** antenna, it made no difference with the strength of the signal. The call quality is a little fuzzy and low. When I made a call, the person on the other end sounded distant. It seemed like the person had a pillow over there mouth while talking on the phone. I, on the other hand, sounded muffled and far way according to some people I called using this phone. My 6185 never had this problem. The voice volume on my 6185 was so clear and loud, I could talk without placing the phone near my ear. This was something I hoped that would carry over to the 3585i, but unfortunately it did not. This is one of the main reasons why I was looking forward to purchasing the 3585i.

FEATURES:

Another disappointment with the phone was the vibrate alert. I could hardly feel the phone vibrate when it rang. I've had farts that had stronger vibrations than the 3585i.The vibrations were so poor you could not even feel it in a paper bag. I never had this problem with my 6185. I could feel the vibration alert through layers of clothing and heavy duty parka winter jacket I had on.

The Sprint version of this phone is very basic since Sprint stripped it of what would have been standard menu options that most ordinary Nokia phones come with. The "D" icon on the display was missing (with regards to digital signal) and the date was no where to be found either. The mini browser on it was disabled, which, in turn renders the phone useless as far as downloading new ringtones and sending text messages.

PROS

Despite the many negative aspects of the phone I've pointed out above, there are a couple (or several) good features that sadly, just fell short of redeeming the 3585i.

LOOK:

The 3585i actually looked much better when I finally had it my hands compared to the many pictures I've seen online. After months of incessantly obsessing over the release of it and looking at pictures day in and day out, the over all design of the phone eventually grew on me. The shade of red was fine but it would have been better had it come with the navy blue face plate instead. The keys were just the right size and were quite easy to push and there was no hang time on its response. The size of its screen was also another positive improvement of this phone. The brightness of the screen impressed me as well. The white light was a far cry from the 6585. When I powered the phone, it lighted up brightly and nicely and slowly faded to a less offensive brightness by itself.

FEATURES:

The ringtones the phone came with were extremely loud and very pleasant (all were polyphonic).

OVERALL

This phone gets 2/5 stars and really needs a complete overhaul. Sprint needs a firmware update in order to make it a half decent phone that it should have been. After a wait of almost 2 years, utter disappointment sums up my review of the 3585i. Hopefully Sprint and Nokia will release a much better phone in the future that will be worth purchasing. Who knows...I might have to wait another 2 years again!
