But the government did exactly that in 1954 when it added the phrase. Look, school is school and church is church. Adults can probably cope as you suggest, but these are children we are talking about.

Crap. Children have been "coping" for 50 years and I dare say NOT ONE has ever been harmed in any way by it. Get over it; the argument is downright foolish.

Hell, I said daily when I was a kid and it didn't make me religious.

Al,

If the liberals will not take responsibility for destroying schools by removing God, what do you attribute the poor situation in schools to? Conservatives?

Liberals have trashed the schools, the media, the constitution, and punishes hard working Americans, when are you going to stop? When we are all driving little red cars? Worshipping Stalin? Lenin? Saddam? No wait, too many people on the left are already supporting him....

Steve

school is school and church is church

True, but saying "under God" does not make a school a church, it does not encourage one religion over another, and it doesn't even encourage some religion over none. God could mean anything in that instance, even yourself if you're so inclined <g>.

It's much ado about nothing. If Congress was telling us we must worship this God and in this fashion, that would be different. Saying the word God, or even making money available for an addict to choose to go to any religious drug rehab program has nothing to do with establishing an official religion.

Those that argue against it have an agenda.
