Well, for one thing, I was following international affairs in the late 1980s and even made a prediction that Saddam would evenutally invade Kuwait after he was done with Iran. Anyone in the know, knows that Iraq has traditionally considered Kuwait to be a part of it and even tried to invade in the early 1960s. If I could figure that out, I'm sure our military leaders could too.

How about our Ambassador Gellespie who told Saddam we don't take sides in arab-arab disputes when he mentioned his anger over Kuwait stealing oil? What about his troop buildup on Kuwait's border? Do you think he just invaded without any preparations? That is the biggest smoking gun. Our satelites must have picked up his troop buildup near the border of Kuwait. That combined with his saber rattling over Kuwait stealling oil, should have been enough to trigger preventative measures by Western powers interested in proctecting the oil supplies. Finally, what about statements by the Bush Admin after the war to the effect that they thought Saddam would stop at the oil fields and leave the rest of Kuwait alone? That sounds like they knew more about his intentions then they were letting onto before the war.
