Actually the French armed Iraq with nuclear technology 25 years ago, but fortunately the Israelis took out the reactor in a daring raid. But it is true that the U.S. supplied Iraq with some things during the Iran-Iraq war, which in retrospect was a mistake.

As for boycotting things French, I understand where the sentiment comes from, but I think at this point it is a bit over the top to do that. I mean, they are disagreeing with us about a matter (an important one) of foreign policy. That is their perogative. The one thing they have done which I think is inexcusable is to refuse to agree to take steps to protect Turkey in case of an attack from Iraqi missiles. I believe their NATO obligations required that.

Got an email yesterday, saying to boycot everything American in France because Americans are boycotting everything French.

This is stupid and childish on both sides.

Americans bashing the French because they have a different opinion. What happened to freedom of speach?

I agree that it is stupid. However it really isn't a freedom of speech issue. Freedom of speech is not the right to say whatever you want without other people getting offended or deciding they don't want to do business with you. Freedom of speech is the freedom to say what you want without being roughed up, fined, tortured, locked up, or killed by the government.

err, history lesson, who armed Iraq in the first place 20 years ago?

Mostly Russia, France and Germany.
