Neocon,
Most folks, both left and right, think that war is inevitable at this point--the left because of crazy george and the right because of determined george.
I still have that nagging sense that some of this posturing going on by the major nations is designed to give them, that is russia, france, and germany credibility with saddam when they throw up their hands and say despite their best efforts crazy/determined W is on the way. Combine that with an offer by them for sanctuary in exile or in iraq itself without the Hague threat, and you may have an offer saddam can't afford to refuse, especially if he keeps his 2 billion dollars. Whenever i write this both left and right dismiss it out of hand. They say saddam is crazy---bush is crazy-determined and war is inevitable. The Cuban Missile crisis showed me at a very young age what thinking out of the box could accomplish. Mike

I agree with everything you said.
That's why you don't get it.
We're not that dogmatic.

President Bush' actions get full credit for success. But it has been communicated, since last summer, as "We are going to invade Iraq and depose Saddam. And we are doing it right away. It's at the top of our list."

Everybody said, "WHat, why, why now, how do you know, is thera any other way, are you sure, why are you sure, why now, cheeze how much will it cost, that much, have you noticed the economy, if it is so serious how do you have time to campaign for the Republicans 24/7?"

And we kept asking. This is what Made President Bush reactive. To be proactive he needed all the questions asked and answered before communicating anything. Who the heck was in charge of FAQ? I don't think these boys cruise the net in a speed boat.

The result has been that our population has been on edge because we thought the war was going to start the next day, and then the next day, see what I mean?
A leader needs to be a communicator. Everybody felt good when Reagan talked. 98% had no idea what he was saying but they felt safe, thought he was smarter then they were, and felt he had his eye on the ball.

Government cannot distance itself from the population's behavior. Focus groups on key words don't hack it. (I can imagine what the focus groups are saying now.)

It's the perception, stupid.:o]
