it [Invasion of Iraq] may prevent some terror groups from gaining access to WMDs

(1) Has Saddam sold WMDs to any terrorist groups ever?
....No.
(2) Could he have?
....Yes.
(3) Do religious fanatic groups and Saddam have an affinity?
....No. They rather detest Saddam's regime because it is secular.
(4) Do terrorists need Saddam as a source of WMDs?
....Absolutely not, as the Tokyo subway gassing incident showed some years ago.

As such, I don't see how you think eliminating Saddam will prevent terror grups from gaining access to WMDs.

added bonus of freeing the Iraqi people from the yoke of constant terror.

Wonderful bonus. I applaud that.

However, the "bonus" should not be all.

I know it means nothing, but they were of the opinion that deposing Saddam will be a good thing for Iraq and the region.

Good for them. However, this is hardly an argument for invading Iraq as a means of making the world safer for Americans.
