Canada is very proud of it's contributions in WW1 and WW2, Korea, Gulf War, ... Canadians are especially proud of it's peace keeping role in the world.

We have a long history of contributing militarily when asked and I don't forsee that changing any time soon. It is true that most Canadians mistrust the US motives in Iraq but that won't cause the kind of structural change you recomend.

Canada has a unique relationship with the US. We are totally dependant on the US economically and militarilty. We deeply appreciate and fundamentally resent the US at the same time. At different periods one of these feelings is more out front but they both co-exist.

Paul

<i think that would be a worthwhile adoption for us (canada) to consider (military not extend outside of
it's borders)>

Why stop there? I think it would be a worthwhile adoption for all nations to consider.

rose, i quite disagree, and would like to see the constitucion amended in this respect ... the reason for it, which was to remove all potential for pretext under which the US could occupy more of our lands, has long since passed, since with the exception of israeli expansionism such taking of the territory of others is now widely considered a thing of history ..... it is time i think for mexicanos to realise that the world has changed, we cannot retain that perfect isolationism of myth, we never could really, and the reality of it if we could would be less than idyllic ..... time to take our place in the family of nations, imho

But absolutely not as errand boys and moral support for the Pentagon, outside those circumstances when US military acts in honourable fashion in accord with decisions arrived at through international institutions .... we should first be more allied with the Ottawas and Copenhagens and Wellingtons and Dublins, the better to build and reinforce those international institutions .... since for all their failings, they are all we've got between us and the law of the jungle
