Are you kidding me? The only reason the oil companies are in the alternative energy business is to make sure it doesn't come about too quickly. Their bread and butter is refining oil and selling it's products. They won't let go of that market without a fight. You really don't think we'd find another energy source quickly if oil was going to actually run out in 5 years. Hell yes we would! You'd see a fast transformation to a hydrogen economy. Right now, it's about maintaining the status quo.
