I don't buy your premise of Iraq taking over the Middle East....no way....then they'd REALLY get the rest of the Arabs on an offensive move WITH us....and they wouldn't last....
So complete containment, continued searches, continued missile destruction, continued pressure...

I think you're mistaken in this attribution.
The last chapter of 1066... (at least in my copy!) is set just after WWI, long before Hitler's rise. It states,
"Since America was now clearly Top Nation, history came to a ."

and given the book was only published in 1930, they'd have been remarkably prescient to have nailed Hitler's path so accurately...
