Marshall's position here is not all that different from Tom Friedman's in his op ed piece in the Times today.

Josh Marshall feels that we have already paid too high a price in dismantling the existing world security system to justify the possible benefits of an Iraq invasion.

What Josh, you, John, et al don't get is that the "World security system" that is being talked about became a "House of Cards" when the Soviet Empire collapsed. Clinton pushed on it and decided not to face the reality of its demise by knocking it down.

What is going on now was bound to happen. But it will not be evident to all until many years from now.
