not at all true. It was done to bridge the gap between the capacity of GSM in china and the CDMA2000 and the chinese desire to use it. At which point the euro centric group is irrelevant.

The chinese want GSM1x so that they can roam freely anywhere. They do not use the government protectionism to stop the free thinking.

Can you state with any degree of knowledge that GSM1x in its present form is in the same state of maturity as the system trialed in Newbury five years ago?

Didn't think so.

Two different but probably analogous technologies. Why do you assume that they are in the same state of development? And, more importantly, why do you assume that GSM1x is DreamWare if it will be trialed soon? Why not keep an open mind? A wait and see attitude, at a minimum?

Why is there no interest on the part of the GSM bunch in maturing IS-833 or in adopting GSM1x and its better, cheaper, etc. voice capabilities? Could it be that the GSM bunch clearly sees the wolves behind the sheep's clothing? Wolf One: The massive amount of Q's work (IPR) in GSM1x which, in present form, requires use of 1x handsets which the GSMers have not yet done a good job of designing, manufacturing, and selling? Wolf Two: The Asian manufacturers who have done a great job with 1x and who could flood the European market with 1x sets the minute the gates are opened?

That's two very big, very bad wolves.

You know that GSM1x will work, it is just a matter of time.

I hope that Q can sell GSM1x to non-Chinese carriers who have no 3G spectrum, but I'm not holding my breath. To believe that these carriers would insist on a better, cheaper technology that increases their voice capacity in the face of the pressure from the GSM bunch, especially the Nordics, might be to engage in wishful thinking. That's why GSM1x has the potential to be Holy War Part II.
