History teaches us lessons. Those lessons should not be ignored. One of them has been, repeatedly, that aggression fueled by religious or cultural hatred is a viral combination. The earlier it is confronted, the better off the world ends up. To say that I can only talk about my own time is absurd. When I wake up in the morning, do I switch on the light bulb or do I sit down and try to figure out how to reinvent one?

Your statement said that A is preferable to B. A is not an alternative choice to B. A causes B, in my view. When you are choosing a car or a girlfriend amongst a range of choices, it is meaningful to say A is preferable to B. When you are saying A (the imperfect process) is "preferable to" B (outright aggression) when the outright aggression that has been shown in this whole situation has been by Hussein whenever he believes the world won't do anything (ask the Kuwaitis, ask the Iranians, ask the Kurds, ask his own political opponents, ask the Saudis and Israelis against whom Scud missiles were launched) is, in my opinion, a false construct on your part. I understand that you are trying to define the issue as America's "aggression", but one can only do so by setting aside a long history in which on many, many occasions that aggression (reactive aggression) has been utilized to bring about a lot of good things, and a lot of bad things has happened when America chose to sit on the sidelines.
