“Whatever happens, France will vote no,” the French leader said
..................................................................................................................................................................
Privately, however, a senior White House official told NBC that the president does see the French veto decision as final — that France will not support war under any circumstances.

Is this reasonable? No matter what turns up, France will veto? Sure gives the impression FRANCE knows of something in Iraq it doesn't want found.

NBC also reported that the United States is now willing to give Saddam a few more days past a current target date of March 17 to disarm — if it would help win a majority of the Security Council.
Yup. I figure March 21 or 22, US Friday evening or Saturday morning. US, European, and most Asian markets closed and the Muslim equivalent of Sunday.

Koizumi, for his part, said he would urge Pakistan, Chile and Mexico to support the U.S.-British-Spanish resolution in telephone calls. “The authority of the United Nations is at stake,” he said. “Amid such heightened tensions, we should not convey the wrong message to Iraq.”
Yup.
