>It is because the people of Iraq agree that Saddam is the problem, not the US.

That's what you think... but as far as I can tell, that's not the case.

Many of the people (I'd go out on a limb and say the majority) of Iraq do support Saddam and oppose the U.S..

This shouldn't be a real consideration of ours, though. They believe as they do because all they see is the state-run propaganda which tells them over and over that Saddam is great and that the U.S. is run by Zionists who want to kill Arabs.

When you hear the same thing over and over and over for your whole life with no rebuttal, you believe it.

1441 does give us permission to act with UN support.

Isn't clear to you that this is not true in the case of military action? What would it take to convince you. And if you come back with the same "1441 allows us to act" stuff, then why the charade? You know that at this point, even if Powell manages to win another resolution, its meaning is nil...since it will have been very clear to everyone that the vote were either bought or coerced. This is a con game aimed at the uninformed.

Gee, why is that? Why would they attack the country which is trying to liberate them?

Friedman theorizes that it is because countries like SA and Egypt, who are quite repressive regimes also, are propped up by the US for reasons of convenience and they a cauldron if Islamic fundamentalism (unlike Iraq which is a secular nation, where there actually is freedom of religion).
