OK, so the opponents of our unjust war do not walk with clean hands either. And yet I believe that France, Russia, Germany, China, etc. would very likely ultimately support the use of some military force to disarm Iraq, given a reasonable amount of time (starting not ten years ago, but when the inspectors returned) for pressure to build through increasing support for such an option.

I wonder what Europeans have to say about what you state as unfettered support for SH and their business relationship with him and Iraq. I have not heard any details of this, and would certainly (a) expect that the aggressive and perhaps arguably more politically knowledgable populous would pursue as unjust such actions by their gov't, and (b) hope that the media of the US and the rest could bring such a facet to light.

Inspections are ineffective -- I think they've been proven effective at temporarily neutralizing any threat to the US from Iraq. But this could change at any time. At any rate, there are many smart people on both sides of this issue. I wish I could feel like our Pres. was one of those, but I fear he understands little of diplomacy, little of war, little of the meaning of words like pragmatism and utilitarianism. I think he's not serving our country well.

OK, now I'll have to write to my friend (French, but living elsewhere) to see what, if any, honest criticism he can offer regarding the dissent between the French and US governments. Interestingly, the people of France and the United States probably agree more than disagree -- it's the governments that definitely disagree. Had any freedom fries (or freedom toast) lately? ;)
