European stocks closed at fresh multiyear lows Wednesday, as worries about a
possible war with Iraq and a barrage of negative corporate earnings
continued to drive investors out of the market.

European stocks soared Thursday, recovering ground from a sharp fall the
previous session, with Fortis and Delhaize racing ahead on strong earnings
news.
