Let's say you have a reputation for anti-Americanism. Of course, you fit right in on that Don't Start The War thread. That's all that's about. A good chunk of those posters also opposed the US intervention in Afghanistan after 911. They predicted a horrible multi-year disaster as America marched into "the graveyard of great empires". And they claimed that action was unjustified, in spite of the attack on the WTC and the Pentagon. They expect us to respect their opinions now?

The Brits I have known, both here and and in Britain, don't fit the stereotype described in that piece. They seemed to have normal dispositions. Maybe it's true of just the lower class in Britain. And yet I remember many London cabbies who were cheerful and helpful and appeared not to have given up on life or its possibilities. The class system in Britain has been seriously weakened. That's got to have had an effect on the outlook of most people (the upper class excepted, possibly.)

How about this: Maybe he wasn't simply British. Maybe he just had a pessimistic outlook.
