YOU were talking about Israel- and you talked about hostility toward Jews AND Israel. It amazed me you would choose to compound those two things. So, because it might imperil US support of Israel we are not allowed to be anti-Israel? You realize what you are saying? What if being for the support of Israel puts the US at risk? I don't think the survival of Israel is really our priority in this country. The US and it's best interest are, or should be, our priority. If supporting Israel is not in line with those interests, then we should not support it. It should get the same treatment other nations get- and not 1/3 of our foreign aid. Quite frankly I don't think we're buying much for that money, except the enmity of the rest of the ME. What a bargain.

I understand your point about the relative damage to be done.

There is not a lot of residual anti-Gallic or anti- German sentiment to fear in the United States

And I agree that the French have nothing to fear here. But I'll bet you that a lot more Americans detest the French than Jews. <g>
