Nokia formally released the EDGE capable tri-band Nokia 6200 that they had already privately shown and demonstrated to carrier users and prospects at NMIC in Munich a few weeks earlier, at COMDEX, in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 18, 2002.

I had conjectured Nokia would announce it in Dallas at the Strategy Update on December 3rd since 3G Americas was holding a confab in Dallas and Sao Paulo at the same time. Obviously I guessed wrong on that one.

On December 4, during 3GSM Americas with press and analysts present, Nokia made its first international EDGE data call from Sao Paulo, Brazil (to Dallas) using the 6200. Ray LeMaistre reported on it here:
