Searle, thanx for the reply.
I'm against this war as well. What I'm trying to do is to analyze what is the chance Bush decides not to make this war. In doing so I'm trying to analyze what his motives are. Motive number one -- he wants to get re-elected. Motive number two -- he wants to please his cronies. What are his chances to get re-elected if he announces that he's backing off? IMO very slim. His policy has already inflicted so much damage to US economy that he won't be spared. All companies blame poor results on this war. Right now Bush's in the box. He has to make this war and win. If the war is very successful he might get a chance in 2004. Do you think I’m wrong?

>>>Diplomatic shambles augurs badly for summit of last resort.

Maybe, just maybe, tomorrow's meeting of Tony Blair, George Bush and Jose Maria Aznar in the Azores will provide a formula to reconcile the seemingly irreconcilable on the United Nations Security Council. Maybe, it will come up with an extended deadline for Saddam Hussein that fits in with Mr Bush's military requirements and overcomes France's refusal to countenance "a philosophy of ultimatum" and insistence that inspections must be given a further chance to succeed.

The Azores, as the White House stresses, will not be a "war summit". It is not so much a last chance to prevent war as a last chance to preserve the impression, at least, that America will play by the international rules. <<<

If so, it should play by them.

>I feel quite sorry for him because of the dilemma facing him and his onerous responsibility to make the right decision

Which is not quite the way others feel.

>>>The world has had enough of Junior Bush and his gang of xenophobes, racists, anti-Arabs, anti-Muslims, fundamentalist Bible-thumpers, crooked defense contractors and oil moguls, Moonies, right-wing ideologues, and quislings like Tony Blair. Junior Bush's "coalition of the willing" is more like a "coalition of the chilling."

It could be that he is mentally incapable of carrying out his duties. In such case, the 25th Amendment is very clear on a course of action. But Junior's problems actually lie with his closest aids, those who manipulate him to carry out their sordid agendas. And for this, the regime in Washington has started a fire that is spreading rapidly through the corridors of power in Washington, state capitals, foreign capitals, intelligence headquarters, corporate board rooms, royal palaces, and even into the sanctified halls of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

Junior, let's face it, you have done more damage to the world and your country in two years than most tyrants have accomplished in decades. Your Dad now even believes you are way off base. Your predecessors Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton think you are an embarrassment. Your Dad's best friends and colleagues think your Iraq adventure is ill-timed and ill-conceived.

You need to either dump that aforementioned band of lunatics you stuck into your administration and who are steering you into political oblivion or you should let Laura and Daddy sign the papers and let the 25th Amendment take its course. <<<
