Why is that? It was effective then and it is just as effective now. And no I am not suggesting that Bush is Hitler or that GOP is the Nazi party. I am saying that the propaganda methods used by this administration is similar to what Nazis and Orwell described. Here are some examples for you to look at. Aside from my notice that they are from Nazis, you would have never expected them to be out of line with today's rehtoric:

"We do not want a second catastrophe along the lines of (hidden date XXXX). We depend not on the grace of our enemy, rather on military might."

"We hate THEM from the bottom of our souls because they threaten our very life, because they oppose our national existence out of envy, jealousy and ill-concealed national pride."

"He knows that we are waging this war for a better peace, that we are fighting for the happiness of people who have so often been oppressed by their governments."

"No power in the world will make us deny our duty, or forget even for a moment our historical task of maintaining the freedom of our people."

If it bothers you that the Nazis used such propaganda to further their agenda, then it should equally bother you that similar methods are used to further the cause of war here. This should be true even if you believe in the war, unless you think that the ends justify the means.

Sun Tzu

"The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle
is borne in mind constantly...it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over."
Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Propaganda Minister
