The UN, or something like it, which represents a civilized and rational consensus, must intervene in any acts of aggression against others. This is a new world. Every country is in our neighbourhood. How do we get the rational consensus? I don't know. We must appeal to self interest and the common advantage inherent in cooperation. Another pacifism solution. What pacifism does is get you run over by non-pacifists. MAD didn't work? Wanna bet? When were the missiles launched? In the real world military force is a necessary component of the mix. You can talk "rational consensus" all you want. What will stop the other guys is the knowledge that they will be atomized if they take you on. The UN, or something like it, which represents a civilized and rational consensus, must intervene in any acts of aggression against others. In that case, the UN had better get more and better weapons than any of its member states. Or its "resolutions" will be just as meaningless as they are now.
