I like my new name for Chiraqi. I hope it catches on. France is not an ally.

France is paranoid.

France has never known a middle ground approach to geopolitics because of the wars they have fought. They have been defeated when they tried empire building with Napoleon and relying on allies left them with Dunkirk and loss of sovereignty.

In the past they had always tried to strike a balance of powers between the super powers as a way to control the US from becoming the lone super power. Now we are that lone super power and it petrifies them.

They are currently trying to take dominance over the EU in an alliance with Germany so as to retain their sovereignty as the EU grows. France is too big to not assert dominance and too small to affect US dominance. They need the EU to offset the US power but also they need to dominate the EU to protect their sovereignty.

They cannot find that middle ground of which will allow them to flourish independently and by their philosophy to geopolitics they may never find that middle ground.
