Iraq is not a big threat for Israel. Yes, Israel would benefit from reduced terror threat in the region but so will US.
Short term the war is irrelevant for US economy but in a long term it would be very beneficial.

You place Israeli interests on your list while stating the war has nothing to do with National security, building Democracy or WMD?

On what evidence do you base this? Hussein's desire for WMDs is well documented. Whether he has them or not is debatable today, but his desire is not debatable. Why do you think this is not a factor in Bush's thinking.

Wolfowitz(the only Jew of prominence in the cabinet)is the leading Democray proponent in the cabinet. He has lived in the Arab world & understands it better than any of the other hawks. Why are you so sure that this is not even a factor?

All wars are fought for a combination of cynical & justifiable reasons. You completetely toss out the justifiables because it is being fought for self interest as well? Your argument would be stronger(IMO) if you at least acknowledged that Bush & co are somewhat concerned about the justifiables. All evidence points to the fact that they consider WMDs a greater threat than you do.

Bush's war in Afghanistan had some cynical motives. Bush certainly benefitted personally from it. It also had some real concerns for our national defense. Does that make it a bad war?

There is real evidence that Saddam wants WMDs. There is real evidence that some hawks believe a Democracy there can work. There are also self interests. They all go hand in hand.
