9.3% top rate income tax right now. And expected to rise. Probably quite a bit. Our guv increased state employment enormously during the '90s and early 2000's. And doesn't intend to cut nearly as much as he grew. So taxes will go up.

Unless he gets recalled. That's being worked on.

Hey, I thought that post of mine was pretty even handed. I admit a bias against smoking. I'm an ex-smoker and I hate the drug peddlers who grow and sell the stuff.

If increasing cigarette taxes to $100 a cig would stop it completely, I'd say it would be worth it. Enormous health benefits. Lower health costs.

But it wouldn't. Just as with drugs that are already illegal, all that would happen is that illegal production and smuggling would increase.
