Over much of the past couple of months I've been warning about Iran and Syria entering the fray, when least expected. Here's something I wrote today on the subject:

Just imagine the frightening scenario.

* US with Baghdad in a state of seige is sitting in the desert vulnerable.
* Iran pours several divisions of Iranians to reinforce Baghdad, or perhaps attempt to flank the US-Brit forces.
* Both Syria and Iran send in its Air Force
* At this time, Saddam uses the chemicals he saved for defensive purposes.
* In the north, Kurds and Turks are engaged in fullscale war.
* Al Qaeda elements up from Saudi Arabia, Yemen and elsewhere fight like gnats anywhere they can, perhaps interferring with US efforts to secure the oil wells.
* Bush thinking this war was going to bring him glory and votes.
