Now the die is cast, and we shall soon see the future. My personal bet is that there will be world -wide terrorism, for a while. I also think the war in Iraq will be short.

Certainly, this is no period for jubilation. My own view is that this war could have been averted in several ways. One of them being french and German support for real disarmament. The others are Bush showing more patience, and lastly, Saddam complying.

I am impressed by the American trend to unify around our leader when the nation is in crises. Eisenhower's popularity was highest after the U-2 debacle, Kennedy's after the Bay of Pigs, Bush Sr. during the Gulf war, and Clinton's after his fly was open.

The UK falls apart after crises. Attlee had to resign after the '56 invasion of Egypt, Thatcher survived attacks during the Falklands (I lived in London then), and Blair is under siege.

He entirely supports, with church documents, your contention that anti-semitism, until after WW II, was official church doctrine.

Does he say anything about anti-Semitism being fundamental to Christianity?

That is what we were talking about, after all.

The Church had quite a few strange practices which they later discontinued. Most were not "fundamental to Christianity", which is how Christianity survived to our day and age.

For example, did you know that inquisitional torture was not abolished by the Catholic Church until 1816? Or that they insisted Galileo was wrong, claiming that the sun revolves around the Earth until 1990?

Hence, "official church doctrine" does not equal "fundamental to Christianity".
