I think there are a lot of other subsidies that are much more absurd than that of tobacco. And I do think you will get your wish. Pretty soon your health insurance won't pay if you have a heart attack because you're 20 pounds overweight. And they might not go for asthma medications if you live in a heavily industrialized area. I personally think it's ridiculous to harp about smoking when anyone who has ever smoked KNOWS it's not good for you. But it is a "choice" people are allowed to make (for now). I think it would be more productive from a health standpoint to focus on the industries that are polluting the environment and really dirtying the air but it's easier to attack the consumer.

I agree with you about personal responsibility too but that is a dying idea. Too easy to sue someone and get a windfall or blame it on the government. I don't think I'd ever pass jury screening for a case where personal choice leads to a sorry outcome ;o)...

So when do southern Ca dwellers sue the Ca air resources board for billions of $$ over health related problems due to smog?
Fair is fair..right?

Seriously, do we need the surgeon general to tell us that smoking isn't good for us? Shit, the first time you breathe the stuff in and it makes you cough like a mofo.

Oh Com'on Mr. Galt, surely you do not expect the Ministry of Warnings to stop caring for all the mofos do you? After all many of them mofos are part of our government and we take care of our own... besides, them evil corporations are making money... what the hell... profit is to be distributed amongst the meek and weak. Remember our moto is: "To those in greater need, From those with the most ability"

Not to mention that the "Equalization of Opportunity Bill" is making headway and the Friends of Global Progress is the new paradigm...

Get with the program Mr. Galt...
