The scenarios you described in the media counts do not consider what was actually counted by officials - only the irony (i agree) of the what if's of each side. The closest you can get to reality is to use official manual recounts where they exist, and media manual counts where they do not. Using the manual counts from the counties, combined with the remaining manual counts from the media (under either standard) means that Bush wins. The conclusion the media reached ignored existing, official manual recounts.
