Just because the French have, for their own reasons, put a spoke in the wheel of the U.S. and created a situation that you approve, hardly means that it is illegitimate to point out certain salient facts about their own power games in the recent past. The temptation to love, glorify and generally exculpate people, parties and nations who favor or advance causes that one believes in (or gets off on) is a stupid and unendearing quality in human nature that only a few rare (and of course mighty!) spirits seem able to transcend.
