Al, while there's life there's hope.

Don't be depressed and definitely don't throw in the towel. I'm not sure about about the rest of you but your mind is first class, so I'm not saying goodbye.

I need not tell you that I greatly enjoy your friendship (present tense) and I hope to continue doing so for as long as I can.

Some advice, if I may: Try to keep up your immune system as much as you can --- take antioxidants (Vit C, E), eat garlic, esp the capsules, fish liver oil, eat yellow fruits and vegetables, drink green tea. If your lungs can exchange gases and you don't get an infection you can still make it. Also see that you don't go into heart failure --- swollen ankles, shortness of breath esp at night. Weigh yourself every morning and record your weight. This is to see that you don't accumulate fluid. There are many good drugs which can help. They may not be able to give you a new pair of lungs but you can be kept going. Try to monitor as many of your vital parameters as you can. Potassium is critical but that will require blood chemistry from time to time.

If it's any encouragement let me say that I'm a great existentialist --- I believe that, even in the most serious predicament, one's best chance is often in one's own hands.

PS. Although I don't practice, I am still a medic and I do keep up, so if there's any advice that you think I can give please don't be shy to ask.
