"Critics say a person who volunteers for the military and discovers an aversion to war on the brink of invading Iraq is being disingenuous at best and cowardly at worst."..

Its a strong opinion for sure......
Maybe they should try the "Other Priorities" gambit that The Veep used........
following in one of Our Leaders footsteps seems a safe bet

While I have no sympathy for this war, and I understand that views can change over the course of military service, the statement

''I can't put myself into the position of going into another country and forcing them to defend themselves against me.''

bothers me.

Sorry that's exactly the position he put himself into. He volunteered knowing what that implied. I recall at 19/20, being asked by a friend to join the local state police. The pay was good, and I needed the money. But there was no point in strapping on that gun, if I wasn't prepared to use it. Sooner or later the need would arise, so think about the implications ahead of time. I did, and I declined. This is not meant to be pejorative to the many fine public servants in the various police forces of our country. It just wasn't the job for me. Similarly, I believe Travis Clark has to take a level of responsibility that he seems to be trying to avoid. Anyone that joined the military for travel, self-improvement and other benefits promised by recruiters without realizing the consequences, is in for life of unpleasant surprises.

OTOH, protest groups leafletting in front of military recruitment offices, certainly should have all the rights the anti-abortion groups have.
