But how about: If they haven't attacked us or declared war, we don't attack them? Who made us the world cop? Why would we want to be? Can we do it and keep our own democracy? The USSR fit the above criteria. Our answer was to build a force that could annihilate them if they attacked us. Then we let their system kill itself. Right at the end, we engaged them in an arms race that caused it collapse. Worked fine.
