Just on the Vlaams Blok - be careful. They are even further nationalist than the problematic wing of Mr. Haider'S Freedom party. I understand your reservations against Mr. Haider but that party is nowhere near the extremes of the Front Nationale (FN) of France or the Vlaams Bloc of Belgium. The Vlaams Bloc is "special" among the more far-right parties of europe becuase they are separationist (sort of a "nationalism" of its own) On Joerg Haider, I can only say that you might not have witnessed the full picture here. The general negative media "fallout" all over the world in 2000 when the OVP - FPO (Conservatives - freedom party) government was formed might have contributed to your feelings at the time. But the freedom party was useful on its own I think. With them, the conservatives were able to break free from social-"democrat" hegemony in our country. Their role now is rather limited after the brightest among their ranks broke with the erratic initiatives of Mr. Haider and joined the ranks of the conservatives. Historically the Freedom party was not an extreme right-wing fringe, the party program is quite center-right, partially libertarian, partially patriotic. But Mr. HAider has become a problem for them. Now that MR. Haider is useless, the future of that grouping will depend on their emencipation away off him. And even with Mr. Haider "Nazi like rule", as you feared it - was NEVER ever at stake. Funny, I support this government considerably, particularly that finance minister who switched over to the conservatives (Karlheinz Grasser - he is very bright). all the best CROSSY
