I guess you and I disagree as well.

My impression from the posts that preceded mine
was that his moment was somehow tarnished by
the boos and hisses intermingled with applause.

I say that's the chance you take when you politicize
in a forum that isn't really political.

My point had nothing to do with the "right"
of free speech or whether Moore was
among kindred spirits for whom he voiced what they
were reluctant to say.

I just get tired of the arrogance that
animates these people to exercise their
free speech rights at inappropriate times.

Perhaps it's just me.

while i have grown accustomed to the occasional political statement from the hollywood left using the vantage point of the stage of the oscars, the purpose of the awards is pronounce "excellence" on the academies nominees (as over campaigned as they may be) reflecting the consensus view of what passes these days for superlative work....according to the "vote".

and while historically they have used the occasion to award the leftist view generally speaking (try being a conservative in hollywood *openly* and see how it affects your livelihood)

what i found repugnant about watching the awards was precipitated by the events leading to this years' oscars ...that is being subjected for months to the hollywood pov regarding iraq.

consequently, i decided to avoid the ceremony altogether as i did not want to be part of a captive audience (captive in the sense that i must enter the award ceremony to see which films were awarded what) and then subjected to opinions i did seek or with which i agree.

from what i have read it didn't play out quite as badly as i thought it would, but missing michael moore's little diatribe alone made the "sacrifice" worthwhile.

if the goal of hollywood left is to alienate the parts of their audience who do not align with them politically, they did a good job as they managed to pull the lowest rated academy award ceremony since they have been tracking the numbers.

he had the right to say what he did.
Yeah. And I have the right to make sure I never spend a thin dime that ends up in his pocket.
