Only one problem - compare Iraq's military capability in 2003 with their military in 1990. Contrast that with Germany from 1933-1939. One was contracting (Iraq) while the other was expanding (Germany).

The whole premise of a growing tyrant that demands containment has been asserted but far from proven. Certainly the conventional threat posed by Iraq has fallen steadily.

FWIW.

Come on, Ed. Iraq is not overunning anyone. The analogy had more relevance in the first Gulf War. In 1937 Hitler had the biggest war machine in Europe--perhaps in the world.

So if you want to make arguments, argue that in his little corner of the world, Saddam is worse than Hitler. But it's a very small corner.
