Actually, you must have missed my previous post, where I specifically mentioned Iraq as more secular and less fundamentalist Islamic than other countries in the Middle East. That was one of the main reason I gave for why I believe a democracy in Iraq just may be possible, whereas elsewhere fundamentalism runs too high to give democracy a real chance.

I stand by what I said. Why is it that so-called Arab allies will help you in secret and denounce you in public? Why is it that Arab allies will take your handouts and then pass them on to terrorists who bomb your buildings? Why is it that the Middle East is so damn poor when they are so resource rich? Why is it that democracy has such a big problem taking root in the Middle East?

There is a corruption at the core of that society that can only be healed by Arabs first admitting that they are their own worst enemies. They must first take ownership of their problems, put a stop to the culture of hate and martyr worship, teach their children that chanting in the streets for the annihilation of the Jews or any other human being is wrong, stop their clerics from issuing fatwas of jihad and death every other day, and acknowledge that no country can solve their problems for them, if they first aren't willing to acknowledge that a problem with their culture exists.

Call me what you want, but I understand the Arab condition very well...and I would have preferred to know much less and respect them much more. That was the case before 9/11.
