I think the 'common area' might be a moderate who could potentially attract moderate voters from the other side. Not the 'hard core' left or right that would never cross party lines.

I'm a Democrat would would definitely vote for McCain, for what I know of him know. I probably would have voted for him over Al Gore in the last election, as Gore is just too much of a polititian.
