With the exception of Ronald Reagan, all of our Presidents since LBJ have been viewed as relative moderates when they were first elected. Bush ran as a moderate conservative, though he has governed from the right. Clinton was a "New Democrat." Carter may have been perceived as a bit more liberal, but poor Gerald Ford was dealt a difficult hand.

I'm a Republican and I have to admit that I would have difficulty voting for any of the current crop of Democratic candidates. If forced to select, I would probably go with Lieberman. I was disappointed in him when he felt that the need to tack to the left after being selected by Gore. His addition to the ticket certainly scared the hell out of me.

It is too bad that the level of political dialogue has degenerated over the past 30 years.
