My objection is the "hating the country" line. I don't consider that a form of argument, nor even an assessment of the position. Rather it's purely and simply ideological hysteria meant to defame someone else.

Well, I can understand your argument but I don't agree. Given the problematic nature of the 'hating the country' idea I think it is possible to speak of the hatred in their positions with asserting the object of that hatred. I think that makes the ideas easier to hear. Rereading Frum's comment I also see that the attached the hatred to the people not their ideas, always a mistake. So, I think there is a point that needs to be made but Frum failed to make it.

Paul

I doubt the Bush folk can be happy about this. I would expect Rove is on the telephone on this one.

I was happy to see Frum go after Novak. Back in my "Crossfire" and "Capital Gang" days, I learned to dislike him. His disdain for Israel has always been evident. He was very much against this war. You are trying to build a controversy about him around his squealing in his column about Frum's article. The very fact that you read and post him here quite often tells us a lot about his views now.

Buchanan went off the reservation a long time ago, and you will notice that he is taking his lumps without the squeals Mr Novak is letting out.
