What you are missing is that first UK and later US prevented these people to "help" themselves. Social and structural change always involves risk and unstability. The prime doctrine of US policy has been that "American foreign policy always favors stability over democracy". In other words, we are the ones who has (and continues) to keep the house of Saud in power. Therefore we are the ones who have the responsibility to cover its shortcomings.
