What would be his motivation to build bridges? He sees US needless of anyone and anything.

Really?! It is not so obvious to me. I think this is exactly the path to America's destruction. US already has a huge influence and a greater military presence in Persian Gulf than all the Persian Gulf countries combined. In politics, as in economy, there is a such a thing as "the law of diminishing returns". We passed the positive return point long ago.
