The accusations that proved to be the undoing of McCarthy, but what made him into the force that he became was the accurate uncovering of communists working for the enemy in this country. Please read the article in the link.......if you still think McCarthy did us a favor and was able to prevent communist subversion in the gov't, then you might want to review your own values. Mr. McCarthy was a perverse gay man who exposed others probably for many reasons but probably an important one was to divert attention from his own private life which he probably considered to be very dirty. He destroyed the careers of a lot of good people through clever manipulation of the media. He was a master at releasing derogatory info about someone right before the media would 'go to press'. Consequently, the person under attack could not respond til the next day, and by that time, it was way too late. My experience has been to question anyone who wants to control or restrict our freedoms. They usually have a number of agendas under way. ted spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk On 9th February, 1950, Joseph McCarthy, a senator from Wisconsin, made a speech claiming to have a list of 205 people in the State Department known to be members of the American Communist Party. The list of names was not a secret and had been in fact published by the Secretary of State in 1946. These people had been identified during a preliminary screening of 3,000 federal employees. Some had been communists but others had been fascists, alcoholics and sexual deviants. If screened, McCarthy's own drink problems and sexual preferences would have resulted in him being put on the list.

This is so illogical.........if there is a crime committed, it is very unlikely Brit. nannies would even be considered with or without profiling. The problem with formal profiling is that its usually redundant........ typically, humans on their own already are performing informal profiling; profiling, btw, that usually is subject to a lot of error. By discouraging profiling, investigators are forced to consider more variables and not rely on informal profiling. I have no idea what you are saying, and what you mean by formal or informal profiling. Informal profiling is when one decides that a particular kind of person like a Muslim must be responsible for a particular crime because of past experiences you have had with that group of people. In other words, informal profiling is another term for biased conclusions. ted
